Kathryn Mavengere has dedicated her career to providing public affairs, media relations, messaging, executive positioning and social media expertise to nonprofit organizations and companies. In founding Maven Public Affairs, Kat strives to help clients achieve their goals, through executing tailored communications strategies and campaigns that drive awareness and policy change, ultimately improving public health and other pressing societal issues.

Before founding Maven Public Affairs, Kat was Director of Strategic Communications at the Glover Park Group for nearly a decade, where she was relied on for her robust reporter relationships, strong writing ability, sound communications strategies and savvy messaging development. She worked with Johns Hopkins Medicine to boost earned media coverage of its groundbreaking scientific studies, earning prominent placements in numerous national media outlets. She worked with the LIVESTRONG Foundation to navigate through and beyond critical crossroads, securing media interviews and speaking opportunities for the cancer nonprofit’s CEO. In addition, Kat provided intensive media and messaging training for lobbying and policy experts working in reproductive health. Kat also led a young women’s heart disease organization’s communications and media strategy efforts to increase awareness among women of their number one killer.

Prior to joining GPG, as media advocacy manager at the American Cancer Society’s advocacy organization, ACS CAN, Kat specialized in strategic media outreach and advocacy communications around ACS CAN’s federal and state legislative priorities. In her five years with the organization, Kat provided media and communications strategy and support for various policy issues, including tobacco control and medical research funding. She also managed production of the organization’s annual advocacy report and earlier in her career led the design of ACS CAN’s advertising.

Kat is a graduate of The American University’s School of Communications with a minor in Criminal Justice. A native of Massachusetts, former javelin thrower and unrelenting optimist, Kat lives with her husband and two daughters in Arlington, VA.
